Film and New Media Department
The Film and New Media encompasses all aspects of the evolving landscape of digital storytelling and filmmaking. Students explore the convergence of print, photography, cinema, radio and television—and how new media are shaping our culture and society today. The program covers everything from screenwriting, journalism, film and podcast production, and animation to film theory and history and world cinema. Students complement their learning with electives in the areas of art, computer science, English and marketing. A key component of the major is an intensive hands-on experience learning the art and craft of visual storytelling with film and video. Students plan, shoot and edit two short projects while engaging in a broad exploration of the technical and artistic components of filmmaking. These projects are supported by in-class exercises, discussion, readings and some film screenings.
