About
Leah Dyjak is an interdisciplinary, lens-based artist whose work combines performance, labor, film, and photography to explore how generations of human use affects the ecologies of place. Dyjak’s images and site-specific installations often push the edges of perception by manipulating surfaces in either pictorial or physical space. Their work changes our perception of material and ideological boundaries, and challenges charts of matters in-flux. Their current research is the disappearing lands in coastal and riparian Southern Louisiana, with a specific focus on infrastructure failure and the attempted control of the Mississippi River.
Professor Dyjak received their MFA from the University of Texas at Austin. Their work is in multiple private collections and has been acquired the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University. They are a past recipient of a Goldfarb Fellowship at the Djerassi Resident Artist Program in Woodside, California. Dyjak is summer faculty at the Anderson Ranch, and their representation includes the Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Their work has been widely exhibited, at venues such as the Houston Center of Photography, Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, and The Front Gallery in New Orleans.
Professor Dyjak teaches courses to from beginning to advanced photography with the newest advanced course offering, Images, and the Expanded Frame. They are a master darkroom printer and specialize in educating students about large format inkjet printing and installing works in public space. They are an active member of the Society of Photographic Education (SPE) and have presented at past SPE conferences.
